As an Academy we are totally committed to promoting Equalities. It is really important to us that our students understand that we live in a world that is diverse and that we can celebrate this difference.
February is LGBT History month and as usual we will be celebrating this with a week of assemblies and a cake sale on Friday. Our rainbow flag will be flying with pride this week. This year the theme of LGBT History month is Peace, Activism and Reconciliation and we will looking at how far we have come since the Stonewall riots and what we can do to make a difference.
It is very important to us that every student and adult feels physically and emotionally safe in our Academy. We have a zero tolerance approach to all homophobic language and actions, whether this is intended to cause harm or not. This is a place where it is certainly not acceptable to say "This is gay!", Indeed, this must be a place where we are all free to be ourselves.
Here at Sprowston we offer a range of extra curricular sports clubs.
Clubs are all free of charge (except the cheerleading, that is done through an outside coach). Go to the changing rooms either at lunch time or straight after school to get changed and then head straight to the venue of the club.
Anyone can just turn up to any club.
If you need anymore information on any sporting club, see a member of the PE team.
This year (as usual) many books are being turned into movies and adapted for television.
Challenge yourself to read some of the books before you see the film in the cinemas or on the television.
Come to reading group on Wednesday lunchtimes in the library to share your thoughts and hear other people’s. You don’t even have to have read the whole book to attend!
The Geography department is offering a series of revision sessions to help you prepare for mocks.

The next few weeks on the run up to Christmas are very important as for the first time ever you have the opportunity to shape your education, choosing some of the subjects you will study in years 10 and 11.
As a year group you are making great progress across the curriculum, but there is still a lot to be done between now and the end of Year 9 so keep up the good work.
On Wednesday Miss Woolton took four year 12 students to compete the Senior Team Maths Challenge at CNS. The boys came 9th overall and did the school proud.

At SCA we want every opportunity to praise students for excellent effort, achievement and attitudes to learning to be seized. Everybody feels motivated by encouragement and praise.
We have asked students through the Student leadership ‘Active Citizens’ for their ideas and opinions on how as a school we rewards, praise and celebrate.
Please find attached to this article the 2018 GCSE Mock exam timetable for December 2018. Individual timetables have also been printed and shared with students today. Using this, students should start to plan their revision for the next 4/5 weeks. To support this, a blank revision timetable plan and instructions are attached, which may be of use to plan out revision.
