Why learn an instrument or how to sing? Learning to play an instrument or sing can become life long passion.
We are very keen that all students who want to learn to play an instrument or sing, are given the opportunity to do so, whether your child has already been learning or is a complete beginner.
At Sprowston Community Academy, we have a variety of peripetetic or external music teachers that visit the school to teach a large range of musical instruments from guitar to piano to singing.

We currently offer the following extra curricular instrument tuition

Guitar (electric, acoustic, classical and bass),
Violin, Woodwind (flute, clarinet and saxophone),
Drums, Piano, keyboard and Voice

We try our best to fit everyone in who fills in an application form, however, the lessons are organised on a first come, first served basis. We will write to you to inform you that your child has a place as soon as these have been allocated. If there is no space we will write to you and put your child on the waiting list.
Our instrument tutors visit us on a weekly basis and all sessions are 20 minutes in length on a one-to-one basis. If you would like to find out more about costs for these lessons, or have any queries please download the instrument lessons brochure and get in touch. Please contact Julie Hansell in the main school office.

Esther Hopkinson

Whilst enjoying the challenges of playing with professional musicians from across Europe, Esther loves nothing more than to share her violin skills and her love of music with her students. In September 2012 Esther set up a new String Time Centre in Notting Hill in collabaration with Trinity Laban and Alpha Plus and is now working more locally with the newly named ‘Sistema in Norwich’ (formerly InHarmony), the Norfolk Music Service and the Guildhall String programme in Felsted.

Adam Darricott

I’m the guitar and vocal tutor at school. I’ve been playing the guitar for 23 years now and have performed all around the country in various projects and bands. I first began playing guitar because of my love of music. From an early age I had family members in bands and was always taken to various gigs around Norfolk. After being shown a Queen video (old school) I knew all I wanted to do was to play guitar and sing.
23 years later I’m still playing, performing and teaching. My love for music is still as strong today. Hopefully my enjoyment and eagerness to keep learning new skills rubs off in my teaching.
